Welcome to the u3a West Midlands Region
This site is for anyone who wants to join one of the 83 u3as in the West Midlands, or for members in the area who would like help and advice about anything u3a-related. Members of u3a come together to share their interests in groups - ranging from sports to art, walking, music, drama, dance, crafts, science and more, depending on the u3a you join.
If you're thinking of joining u3a, click on the links in "find your local u3a", to go to the local website: there's also a link to a map of the u3as throughout the UK. You can visit a u3a before you decide to join, and every group's different, depending on members' interests.
There’s no age limit on u3a membership, although most people join when they retire from full-time work, to meet new people and pursue new things – at low cost, locally. We're a non-profit organisation, run by members - so if you have a skill to share, let us know.
If you're already a member, then this site directs you to useful information: you can join free national talks and courses, volunteer nationally, receive a free copy of the “u3a Matters” magazine, and receive useful discounts via the “Friends” newsletter. You can also obtain promotional materials from the national office.
The u3a Council represents u3a members interests and concerns to the Third Age Trust (our governing body) A Region should have 2 local Council Representatives. In 2026 we had no candidates in the Region for the 2 roles, so the Chair of the UK u3a Council (Sue.Russell@u3a.org.uk) has kindly stepped in until elections next year. You can contact her via our Contact page, while the Resources page links to information about the Third Age Trust and lets you know what's available for your u3a, IF you're interested in becoming a Council Representative for the West Midlands, OR in being part of a Regional Committee, contact Sue. You may wish to apply for Regional funds for cross-u3a projects or events.
There are u3a communities on Facebook and the links to them are below. "Keeping in Touch" does what it suggests, while "Let's Talk Tech" runs technology talks on Wednesdays, answers technical questions & gives advice. The u3a's also on YouTube: just search on "u3a."
